Homeowners Insurance
DOES MY HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE COVER WATER DAMAGE TO MY UTah HOME?
In short, homeowners insurance can cover your water damage, but it depends on the situation.
Water damage claims are one of the most common home insurance claims. Most policies cover sudden and unforeseen water damage. Repetitive problems such as roofs or plumbing systems that have been leaking for a long time are not covered. Dwelling coverage or personal property coverage may apply depending on the nature of the claim.
Dwelling Coverage – If leaking plumbing damages the structure of your home, then you may make claims for dwelling coverage.
Personal Property – Personal property coverage pays for the repair or replacement of property such as electronics damaged by water.
However, damage as a result of recklessness or poor maintenance is not covered in homeowners insurance. They also focus on the damage and not the source of it. You may have to repair the leaking plumbing yourself.
